About Lyman Whitaker
Good old Lyman has been sculpting since 1971 and over time has become one of the most renowned kinetic artists of his generation, as Alexander Calder was in his time. He is a contemporary of Anthony Howe. Collectors include Disney World, Apple TV+, the Dallas Arboretum, the Morris Arboretum of Philadelphia, the City of Boston, and private collectors in the US, Europe and Asia.
Lyman Whitaker's intent, through his Wind Sculptures, is to encourage civilization to create a more harmonious relationship with the earth. Each sculpture is made of durable copper and stainless steel, lasts for generations, and is designed to withstand 90 MPH winds. Lyman's works are soothing, mesmerizing and easy to install. They're designed to be left during the winter and summer in any part of the world and require almost no maintenance. Our recent exhibit at the Dawes Arboretum in Columbus, OH was a spectacular success.
Leopold Gallery has been carrying Lyman's Wind Spinners since 2008, when Paul Dorrell, our founder first met Lyman. We've been responsible for his exhibits at various botanical gardens and museums. All of Lyman's sculptures are created by hand in a highly innovative studio. His kinetic works are aesthetically profound yet each has a high degree of mechanical integrity, meaning each design is engineered to be passed down from generation to generation. We do not believe in pre-planned obsolescence.
