Jacob Burmood Sculpture Dedicated at Arrowhead Stadium, KC Studio Magazine

In October, the Arrowhead Art Collection unveiled its second outdoor sculpture at Arrowhead Stadium, Joining Jun Kaneko’s ceramic “Horizon,” Kansas City artist Jacob Burmood’s “Third and Long” is an 11-foot-tall, 600-pound cold-cast aluminum sculpture that sits on a 4′ granite/stainless steel pedestal designed by Paul Dorrell, President of Leopold Gallery + Art Consulting.The sculpture, an abstract interpretation of the movement of the human body with the shape of a football integrated into it, comprises a curving, openwork form divided into four connected quadrants representing the four quarters of a football game, as well as the paths that football players take while running with or catching the ball. Its circular base symbolizes the “O” used in a coach’s playbook for offensive players. “Third and Long,” one of more than 45 artworks in the Arrowhead Art Collection, is located outside the Tower Gate on the south side of the stadium.
